Tuesday 11/24

Journal:

Today I collected your rock density labs (part one and part two) and we went over the analysis together, then we finished book work from yesterday.

Then we started on the conversions for the project we will be working on next week:  scale model of the earth.

HW:  presentation board due 12/2

Monday 11/23

Journal:

Draw a picture of Earth and label all its layers.

Today I checked off your science fair data (sorry no late work - if you were absent bring it to me as soon as you get back). I also collected the density vocab that was due today.

Then we worked on an assignment from the red textbook in our classroom. Read pp. 190-196 then answer #1-11 on pg. 197.

HW:  presentation board due 12/2

Thursday 11/19

Journal:

  1. A student shakes a jar with a mixture of sand and gravel types.  Instead of mixing, the sand grains separate into layers.  Why?
  2. In the spring, rivers in Utah are often brown in color because they contain very small particles of sediment called silt.  Why is silt suspended in the water?

Today we did Part 2 of the Rock Density Lab. You can use materials from home if you were absent today.

I also handed out your new I can statements and assigned the vocab as homework due Monday 11/23.

HW: Vocab from new I can statements, data due 11/23; presentation board due 12/2

Wednesday 11/18

Journal:

  1. A student collected data about the density of air.  She found that .1 g of air had a volume of 100 cm3  .  What is the density of the air?
  2. A liquid is found to have a volume of 75 mL in a graduated cylinder.  When placed on a balance, the liquid and graduated cylinder have a mass of 125 g.  The empty graduated cylinder has a mass of 50 g.  What is the density of the liquid?

Today we did a lab measuring rock densities. Here is the lab sheet. You can use your own materials or come see me for the lab materials.

HW:  none
Reminders:  Data due Mon. 11/23, Presentation board due 12/2

Tuesday 11/17

Today we went over the requirements for your science fair presentation and visual display.

You'll need the rubrics and requirements lists. These are only hard copies, so if you didn't get them, please come see me.

Then we went used the remainder of class time to teach each other the objectives from the All About Matter unit.

HW:  none
Reminders:  Data for science fair collected by Monday 11/23; presentation board due Wednesday 12/2

For our journal today, we watched this video:

I had you write down:

A. The problem
B. How they solved it

Then we watched this video as an introduction to our next project on atomic scientists. Please use this worksheet to use for notes as you watch.

Then we signed up for project topics. Please come see me if you need to sign up for a topic.
