Thursday 9/17

Journal:

Can you divide a kiss forever? Explain.

I gave you time at the beginning of class to teach each of the objectives from the "What is Science" unit to a partner, then get them initialed for extra credit. I collected anyone's that was finished.

We then made a "magic weave" foldable for your new vocabulary, then started defining the key words on your new I can statements using the magic weave. We will finish that on Monday.

HW:  none

Wednesday 9/16

Journal:

What is an atom? What is a molecule? How are they similar?

Today we did an activity called "Dividing a Kiss." Basically you just try to cut Hershey's kisses into the smallest pieces possible with a plastic knife. This is the write-up for it.

HW:  none

Tuesday 9/15

Journal:

No journal today. We took the last day of data.

The rest of class was given to finish the mastery quiz (analysis and conclusion).

I also collected your safety contract and metric system practice today.

HW:  anything left on the mastery quiz

Monday 9/14

Journal:

No journal today; we just took data for the quiz (Day 2). Get data from your lab partner if you weren't here today.

We finished the lab safety posters based on the rules on the lab safety contract, then worked on a metric system practice worksheet as a review of the metric system.

HW:  Have lab safety contract signed and returned AND finish the metric system practice worksheet if not finished in class.

Friday 9/11

Journal:

No journal today; we just took data for the seed lab/quiz.

We reviewed the rules on the lab safety contract, then spent the remainder of class designing a poster that illustrates one of the rules. If you weren't in class, download a contract then come see me for materials for a poster.

HW:  Get safety contract signed by parents and bring back Tues. 9/15/15

Thursday 9/10

Journal:

No journal question today. I just had you get lab equipment and get started on the experiment.

Today we did the experiment portion of your quiz. If you missed class, you will need to find a group to work with tomorrow and use their experiment to take data.

As a class, we will be finishing the entire quiz on Monday after you take your last set of data.

HW:  none

Wednesday 9/9/15

Journal:

How might you test this hypothesis?

If you drop different objects, they will fall at the same rate.

Today we went over the mastery quiz which is an experiment you will perform with a partner, then analyze and conclude on your own. We just went through the materials, procedures, and other items to know for the quiz. Be ready tomorrow to perform the experiment and answer questions about the independent variable, dependent variable, constants, and control. You will also make qualitative and quantitative observations and decide whether the experiment is true science or pseudoscience.

If you were not in class today, please come see me as soon as you get back. You will need a hard copy of the quiz and some time after school for me to explain it to you.

HW: none! :)
