We started our Human Systems presentations today and will finish on Monday. You need to fill out this notes outline as you listen to each presentation on the organ systems of the human body.

Wednesday 2/24

No journal today.

We spent the day working on the Human Systems presentation. Focus today was on putting together a set of google slides with which to share your information with the class tomorrow. Please share your slides with rachel.benson@maeserprep.org.

HW:  Anything left on your slides; share them with Mrs. Benson BEFORE CLASS STARTS TOMORROW THURSDAY 2.25.16 - Any slides shared AFTER class starts tomorrow will be late with a penalty of 50%

We worked on your Human Systems presentations today. We had the computers in the classroom to do research. If you missed class today, make sure you do some independent research on your project topic. We will begin presentations on Thursday.

Friday 2/19

Journal:

  1. What are the 3 basic needs of all living organisms?

  1. Give 3 specific examples of how an organism’s structures (cells, tissues, organs) help meet those needs.

Today we did a human cell observation lab. Here is the writeup. We did the lab and turned it in today. You will need to come to class after school to make up the lab if you missed it.

Then we signed up for groups for the Human Systems Presentation project. Make sure you sign up as soon as you get back to get a project topic and group.

Thursday 2/18

Journal:

1.List the 5 levels of organization in living things from least to most complex.
2. Give 2 examples of each of the levels of organization in a human body.

Today I gave you 15 minutes to finish Structures Meet Needs. If you still aren't done after today, it's homework due tomorrow.

Then we started (barely) a human cell observation lab. Here's the writeup. In-class makeup only, so if you missed class see me after school.

Watch this video clip and write 1-2 summary sentences.

We used all of class time to finish Structures Meet Needs. I handed back your diffusion quiz.

Today I handed back your Cell Day mastery quiz. Then I checked off your organ homework (see Thursday 2/11's post).

We finished the Organization of Living Things ppt and notes outline. If you missed class, make sure you either print the powerpoint or copy information from it into the notes outline.

Then started "Structures Meet Needs" using a textbook. We'll finish it in class tomorrow.

Thursday 2/11

Journal:

We turned in your diffusion mastery quiz ("Cells at Work") and went over it together. Come see me to discuss makeup of that lab.

We started notes using this ppt and notes outline. Please print the powerpoint or fill in the notes outline using the slides.

HW:  research one organ:  write about a) its major parts (3-4) and b) its main function. Bring the paragraph to class on Tuesday 2/16

Wednesday 2/10

Journal:

Make a list of things that go into a cell and things that go out. Then describe 3 processes that move substances into and out of a cell.

We used the lab "Cells at Work" as the mastery quiz for diffusion/osmosis. If you missed class, please get data from a classmate and do the analysis/conclusion on your own.

Tuesday 2/9

No journal today.

We finished "Cell Day" today (six entries total) then turned that in.

Then we finished the Bill Nye episode from yesterday.

HW:  none

Monday 2/8

No journal. We made one more entry in your Cell Day assignment. We will turn that in tomorrow and it will count as your mastery quiz for the microscope unit.

Then we went over and turned in your Osmosis practice problems and watched Bill Nye - Cells for the remainder of class.

Friday 2/5

No journal today. We made a fourth journal entry in "Cell Day."

We finished the Osmosis practice problems we started yesterday in class, then did another reading assignment about Anton Van Leeuwenhoek. 

HW:  bring specimen to view under the microscope by Tuesday 2/9

Thursday 2/4

No journal today. Instead, we made our third journal entry on "Cell Day."

After finishing that entry, we finished the Osmosis and Diffusion notes, then started some Osmosis practice problems.

HW:  bring another specimen for the microscope on Tuesday 2/9

Wednesday 2/3

No journal.

We started class by viewing a new specimen under the microscope and making a journal entry in your Cell Day Writeup.

Then we went through this Osmosis and Diffusion ppt. Please either print the powerpoint to keep in your notes or take notes from the slides.

HW:  Bring a new specimen to view under the microscope on Thursday (tomorrow) 2/4.

Tuesday 2/2

Journal:

Describe in detail how the cheek and onion cells were similar and different as viewed under the microscope.

Today we turned in your cheek and onion cell lab, then I checked off your microscope specimen. We started the week-long assignment "Cell Day" by making a microscope slide of the specimen you brought to class. You made one journal entry on the Cell Day Writeup.

We finished the Cheek and Onion Cell lab today. We will turn it in tomorrow. Make sure if you've been absent for this or the Using a Microscope lab you come see me asap to arrange a time after school to make it up.
